Where is the area of Tower Hill in London?

Tower Hill sits southeast of The City of London, on the northern embankment of the River Thames, covering the area immediately around the Tower of London.

The district is serviced by Tower Hill Underground station and London Fenchurch Street train station, eleven minutes away from Westminster on the District and Circle Underground lines.

What is the appeal of staying in Tower Hill?

Sitting in between The City and the London Bridge and Southwark districts across the river, Tower Hill is not only the oldest part of London, but also walking distance from some of London’s most well-known attractions, including Tower of London – the city’s imposing royal fortress; Tower Bridge, a symbol of the capital; and the remainder of the city’s ancient Roman Wall.

To the east side of Tower Hill is St Katharine Docks Marina. A quick walk across Tower Bridge and you will be able to see London’s famous skyline from across the river as well as HMS Belfast, The Shard - London’s tallest building - and Potters Fields Park. 

From here you are also only minutes away from St Paul’s Cathedral, the Museum of London, The Barbican Centre, Westminster, Buckingham Palace, Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus, London’s main tourist destinations.

Things to do in Tower Hill

Learn about London’s history visiting London’s Roman Wall, the Tower of London - where you can also see the Crown Jewels, and the Jack the Ripper Museum.

Take some amazing pictures of London’s famous skyline and landmarks from Tower Bridge. Go for long river walks along the Thames embankment, or cross the river and have afternoon tea at The Shard with panoramic views of the capital. 

And once you have covered all the local attractions, jump on the Tube and visit the rest of central London. 

Places to eat in Tower Hill

This area of London is great for enjoying riverside wining and dining. By the Tower of London, Coppa Club offers amazing views of Tower Bridge and The Shard. During the winter they even host see-through igloos that allows you to dine outside and stay warm while enjoying the view.  

The area around All Hallows by the Tower, Fenchuch Street Station and St Katharine Docks also offers an array of restaurant chains worth exploring. And across the River Thames, The Shard is home to four high-end restaurants with panoramic views of the city. And if you wander into The City of London district, you can also have afternoon tea at the Sky Gardens on the top of 20 Fenchurch Street Building, or as the locals call it, The Walkie-talkie.
