Maida Vale Guide

A picturesque residential area of London, Maida Vale is the neighbour to affluent Notting Hill and St John’s Wood. The area, characterised by the floating community of ‘Little Venice’, has its very own unique charm, and a peaceful ambience enjoyed by those who prefer the quieter side of life

Staying in Maida Vale

Maida Vale comprises largely of tree-lined streets and beautiful Edwardian properties, that has attracted many a famous resident, including Kate Moss, Joan Collins, Jennifer Saunders and Jarvis Cocker.

‘Little Venice’ is an affectionately named area full of floating homes, with many people taking residents in canal boats and barges.  The colourful boats, complete with hanging baskets, create a lovely scene which can be enjoyed from one of the many canal-side restaurants.  A very different square mile to that of the City of London, the floating community also includes Cascade, the floating art gallery and the Puppet Theatre Barge.

Maida Vale is also the home of one of the world’s most recognisable street crossings on Abbey Road, made famous by The Beatles.  The crossing featured on the front cover of their album of the same name.  Many visitors are eager to recreate the picture but do beware of drivers.

There are a number of restaurants and dining options from traditional British pub grub to fine international cooking. The Little Venice Lounge is the only wine bar in Little Venice, offering champagne, wines and cocktails. Paddington Recreation Ground provides 27 acres of greenery in which to relax and take a leisurely stroll or get involved with a variety of sports.
