London’s most iconic luxury department store, Harrods offers visitors from all over the world over 1 million square feet of stunning retail space. Divided up into over 300 different departments, visitors are presented with everything they could possibly ever need.

Departments include everything from toys to homeware and luxury tailoring. In fact, Harrods is so large that it occupies a 5-acre site.

Situated in west London’s Knightsbridge area, Harrods is surrounded by an array of plush designer stores and chic jewellers.

  • Harrods was founded in 1824 by Charles Henry Harrod, who was only 25 at the time.
  • The department store was acquired by House of Fraser back in 1959, but it was eventually purchased again by the Fayed brothers in 1985.
  • In 2010, Harrods was sold to the State of Qatar, who currently owns the store.
  • The store’s official motto is “Omnia Omnibus Ubique” which, translated from Latin, means “All things for all people, everywhere.”
  • During the festive season, it is thought that Harrods can welcome up to 300,000 people in a single day.
